'I’m a tall girl on the hunt for the perfect pants. Here's how it's going.'

You know how everyone has that *thing* about themselves that can make shopping a challenge?

Might be a longer torso, shorter legs or bigger bust. Well, mine is that I'm tall.

It's usually the first thing people mention when they meet me and I'm never quite sure whether it's a compliment or they just want to address the elephant (or rather, the baby giraffe) in the room.

Depending on how you like to think of it, I'm 187cm or 6"1 so that means that just about everything I try on is too short. 

Somewhere around my teens I gave up ever finding jeans or trousers that didn't look like capri pants on me and just accepted a life of constantly cold ankles (yes, please bring out the world's tiniest violin for me, I'll wait.)

But in recent years, something changed. Suddenly everywhere I turned, fashion labels were releasing gorgeous trousers or wide-leg pants and I set myself the mission of finding The Pants.

You know, the perfect pair that you can dress up for special occasions, dress down for work and that actually sit somewhere below the calves?

Simple enough, right?

The answer to that would be a big, resounding 'No'. 

I have tried on pants from far and wide to find a pair that actually touch the floor – or at least come pretty damn close.

And I’ve found some affordable styles that were too good not to share.

Here are my recommendations for the best brands for the tall girlies.

Miss G & Me 

Nothing makes me happier than finding a local Aussie label that is tailored to those of us with longer limbs. 

I got sent a pair of the Monique Tall Women's Long Black Pants ($135) to try and they are deliciously comfy and long. I'd recommend sizing down from your normal size as they're really stretchy.

The quality is beautiful. Plus, you'll get all the good feels from buying from an Australian lady start-up.

ASOS Tall

I’ll admit I wept a little when I put these on these ASOS Design Tall Slim Straight Suit Pants ($44). 

I even sent a slightly unhinged video to my sister-in-law screaming about how I had pants on that not only zipped up but didn't make me look like a clown. I have never known fashion joy like it.

In fact, these ones are so long they actually bunch a little on the ground, so they can be worn with chunky trainers or even heels if you dare.

There's also a bunch of different colours (and blazers to match) so I'm going to be stocking up.

I've also got the ASOS Tall Linen Dad Pants ($60) with an elasticised waist which are heaven and quite generous in the sizing, so I’d suggest sizing down if you’re going for one of their more relaxed fits.

AERE – The Iconic

This brand was the surprise find for me! I usually scour through listings on The Iconic looking at the model heights to see if any of them are actually suitable.

I figured these Aere Straight Leg Linen Pants ($120) might need to hem taken down, but when they arrived they were PERFECT.

They sit a few centimetres off the ground on me in flats but would have oodles of length for most tall girlies and the fabric is soft and luxe.

I always get compliments when I wear these ones and they're a timeless cut to wear to work or off-duty with sneakers.

AERE also have this gorgeous Pleat Front Straight Leg Pants ($120) in gingham and raspberry colourways which weren't quite right for my wider hips, but the length is PERFECTION.

Showpo

Showpo's Beca Plisse Flared Pants ($69.95) are hands down the comfiest things I've ever worn.

With an elasticised waistband and relaxed fit, my friends will attest I've done a high kick or two on a night out in these just because I can.

I wear these a bit lower, just above my hips, but I have a few shorter friends who own the same pair and simply wear them high-waisted so they're suitable for a range of heights.

I opted for the black but plan on ordering them in every colour to see me through winter.

Topshop Tall

Okay, so I know jeans are not technically pants, but they are equally hard to find.

And if you’re a millennial like me, you’re probably desperately trying to figure out what you’re 'allowed' to wear now that skinny jeans are apparently uncool.

I am in love with Topshop’s range of extra length jeans and the Mom Jeans ($97) are my favourite. They’re great quality and nice gateway jeans to the more modern styles.

Charcoal Clothing

Sometimes my targeted ads on Instagram get it right and this was one of those times with gorgeous Brisbane brand, Charcoal. 

While Charcoal’s Sweet Serenity Pants ($79.95) are slightly shorter than my other options, the colour and material was too dreamy not to love them.

They also come in every delicious pastel colour you can think of and have a side split up the leg for a more relaxed feel.

I’m also planning on ordering a tonne of options from Marks and Spencer’s range as they have extra length options in most styles, so stay tuned!

While there has been plenty of trial and error along the way, the moral of the story is that there are actually pants out there in the world suitable for us tall girls. Who knew!?
