Cancer Council just launched a SPF serum. Here’s everything you need to know.

Cancer Council
Thanks to our brand partner, Cancer Council

If I had a dollar for every time I’ve been asked for a facial sunscreen recommendation over my 20 years of testing products, I'd be able to buy an island and retire tomorrow.

I get it, I truly do. Wearing sunscreen on our faces every single day seems like a hassle, most often because traditional formulas have been thick, greasy or oily, hard to blend, awful under makeup, or made us break out. No thanks.

But, we all now know the importance of adequate sun protection every single day, not just for cancer prevention, but because it’s the number one single best anti-ageing skincare product you can use.

Do you know your skin type? Listen to You Beauty, the podcast for your face, and it’s here to answer all your questions, every day of the working week. Post continues below.

So we need to wear it, but we want to feel nice and look good, is that too much to ask? And do you know what my answer always is to the above question?

“The best sunscreen on the market is the one you personally enjoy the feel and look of, and that you’ll reach for and use every single day, just like brushing your teeth.”

Thankfully, SPF serums are here to make the whole thing easier.

Yep, a serum that also offers a very high sun protection.

They give you all the sun protection of a traditional sunscreen that might have been thicker or oilier, but they have the consistency and elegance of a skincare serum. The perfect marriage.

There’s a little brand called Cancer Council, you might have heard of it? Jokes, it’s actually Australia’s number one selling sunscreen brand.

And guess what? They just brought out a SPF serum. It’s called the Cancer Council Face Day Wear Hydrating SPF 50+ Serum, and it’s in all your favourite stores and online now.

But before you click away to buy it, let me tell you a little bit more about it.

It’s SPF 50+, the highest protection you can get in Australia, but it also has bona fide skin-loving ingredients in there too, like hyaluronic acid, vitamin E, and aloe vera. The latter two being crucial for protecting the skin's surface against external damage.

It’s formulated for both dry and sensitive skin types, as well as combination skin, and aims to offer that dewy glow we’re all always looking for. Of course it’s also dermatological tested and fragrance-free.

As the name suggests, it has a serum-like texture, almost like a very lightweight lotion. It's designed to not be overly thick, and therefore, easy to spread across the skin.

Since SPF serums came onto the scene, I always hear people ask exactly where they fit in their morning beauty routine, which is a great question. And the answer is even better — it can be your hydration step AND sun protection step, all in one.

Or, you’re totally able to layer it on top of another serum — say, vitamin C for example — which is an excellent antioxidant to layer on in the morning under your sunscreen.

You could also top it with a day cream if you felt your skin needed it. After that it’s your makeup routine. Whatever that might look like.

As I touched on earlier, there is zero point in having a lengthy (or expensive!) skincare routine with lots of fancy lotions and potions unless you wear sunscreen every single day. It truly is the best anti-ageing skincare product you can buy and use.

Oh, and please don't forget to apply it generously for effective protection, not only to your face, but to the tops and backs of your ears, the back of your neck, and down across your décolletage. Your face does not end at your chin!

Not using sun protection every day? Maybe it’s time you gave an SPF serum a try.
