No Filter: What happened when I was diagnosed with ADHD at 49.

I was scrolling face book and I saw your podcast on being interviewed in regards to being diagnosed with ADHD . I had read an article last year that you wrote  in regards to your diagnosis and I was not thrilled with some of what you said. Today listening to you podcast , I realised I was wrong to make that judgement. Why , you ask because I was diagnosed at age 62 ,five years ago and the reaction I had from my family was  quite devastating and I guess last year I was still ". wounded " and anything I read that I felt  was not correct I responded in an indignant emotional dysfunctional way.  because I have since realised I was carrying a lot of shame in being  diagnosed with ADHD . I am in the process of establishing myself as an advocate for mature age adults being diagnosed with ADHD . I looked at the ADHD resource stories Mia and I noticed there was not a person over 50 telling their story . Our stories will be different to people under 50 but just as important . To learn what positive influences helped us in our younger life without diagnosis and then identify the negative aspects that affected our life . I thank you Mia for your podcast . 

I was diagnosed when I was almost 15. Then, when I turned 16, the doctors told me and my parents that because I was 16 I no longer had ADHD and so I would not need medication anymore.
