The vitamin C serum giving other brands a run for their money.

If you care about your skin, then chances are you have vitamin C in your arsenal. If you haven't yet, then you probably want to look into it. It’s well known for its potent antioxidant properties, its anti-ageing benefits and who doesn’t want gorgeous, glowy skin?

Olay’s Luminous Niacinamide + Vitamin C Super Serum is a scientifically advanced vitamin C formula using a unique combination of ingredients that target all the skin’s layers for bright and even skin tone. It provides a radiant glow to the skin.

Its lightweight texture hydrates the skin and contains niacinamide that helps reduce the appearance of dark spots and brightens the skin from within. It also contains pro-vitamin B5, which helps support the skin barrier and prevent irritated skin, as well as vitamin E, which is an amazing antioxidant and humectant. 

Olay’s Vitamin C Serum is stable and potent, which means that the efficacy of the formula remains fresh and active. It's also formulated without sulphates, parabens, phthalates, petrolatum and mineral oil.

What all that means is that you get juicy, glowy, brightened skin that has a more even tone. Now, that is something I can get behind. I was keen to try this out as it's readily available at the chemist, which is something we all love. 

Of course, just trying it myself only gives one opinion, skin type and age to compare to, so I enlisted a couple of other beauty writers to try it out. Here are our honest thoughts.

I’m not going to lie, I am a bit of a vitamin C snob, but I do love to try new products. So, I stripped back my skincare to include just the Olay Niacinamide + Vitamin C Serum along with toner, moisturiser and sunscreen. I wanted to see how well this would work.

Olay is dermatologist recommended and their vitamin C works to reduce the look of dark spots, for visibly more even tone and texture. While you can have all the ingredients under the sun listed, it's actually how well your skin absorbs them that is the important point here. 

This serum has a targeted action to penetrate 10 surface layers deep, which means the dark spots and brightening happens from within, not just at a surface level.

Now, my skin was looking a bit dull at the start, flat for want of a better word, so it had some work to do. This product has a light floral scent and a nice slip to it as you rub it into the skin. I was immediately left with a youthful glow and brightness even after the product was fully absorbed.

There was a visible difference to my skin over the two weeks; my skin just looked so healthy, so much so that I have now been using it for four weeks and won’t be stopping anytime soon.

As someone who has a lot of pigmentation, you can see the change in my skin during the usage of this product. Olay is proving to be at the top of their game with this one, for sure.

I’m a vitamin C junkie. It’s been a staple in my skincare routine for years. (It’s the glow — I just can’t get enough!) As a result, I’ve tried a heck of a lot of vitamin C products and I’m always keen to suss out any new ones that are doing the rounds.

I was particularly intrigued when I saw the ingredients list of the Olay Vitamin C Serum. I recently re-discovered my love of niacinamide (I can’t believe I forgot how good it is), so this seemed right up my alley.

I’ve been using the serum every day for the last two weeks. Spoiler alert: it’s been a right treat!

When I first applied the serum, I was surprised and delighted at how nourishing it felt on my skin. Its silky, milky texture glides across my face like a dream. And importantly, it sinks in super speedily.

Despite the serum adding some lovely luminosity, I was happy to discover that it didn’t leave my skin feeling greasy. I took a trip to sunny (muggy) Queensland during the trial period and even in the humidity, the serum held up. We love to see it!

Over the two weeks, my skin experienced pesky hormonal troubles but the vitamin C and niacinamide combo helped me through. It kept the glow on high and dark spots left behind from breakouts to a minimum.

This little bottle of glow has well and truly earned its place in the permanent rotation.

Vitamin C used to dominate my skincare routine. Whether it came in the form of cleansers, serums, masks, moisturisers or even as a powder, you name it, I had it.
